Unit Description

This unit provides an introduction to pollution management and examines the sources, effects and means of controlling/avoiding air pollution; noise pollution; water pollution; and land pollution. The legal and administrative aspects of pollution are examined and specific case studies in water treatment; solid waste management; remediation of contaminated sites, etc. are studied. The unit adopts a proactive approach to reducing/avoiding pollution rather than a regressive control approach.
