Coordinator(s) Brett Baker (bbaker2@une.edu.au)
Unit Description This unit builds on the morphology and syntax from foundation units in linguistics. Taking a typological perspective on the main morphological and syntactic phenomena of the world's languages, it covers standard analytical techniques including word formation rules and tree structures. There is an emphasis on problem solving and data analysis. While the emphasis is on analysis, rather than theory, it also introduces some theoretical and conceptual issues that arise in language description. The unit is supported by a variety of online tools including online assessment. Web access is essential.
