| Unit Description |
This unit explores contemporary Japanese popular culture through content areas such as anime, manga, popular music, television and the spread of Japanese popular culture to other countries. On successful completion of this unit, students will have some understanding of the role popular culture plays in everyday life in Japan and ways in which ideas and values are communicated through it. They will also be equipped for more knowledgeable and meaningful engagement with Japanese people. This unit is designed to assist students learning Japanese as a foreign language to develop an understanding of Japanese culture. However, it would also be suitable for anyone interested in building up a foundational knowledge of Japanese popular culture.
