Unit Description

Continuing on from JAPN301, this unit aims to further develop upper intermediate-level communicative competence in Japanese through the following four categories of knowledge/skills: (1) upper intermediate listening and speaking skills in Japanese; (2) upper intermediate skills in reading and writing Japanese (consolidating approx. 500-550 previously learned kanji, learning an additional 100-120 new kanji from the second half of the 1006 Kyôiku kanji and developing basic awareness of generic structure of texts); (3) aspects of Japanese society and culture relevant to inter-cultural communication at upper intermediate level and; (4) language learning strategies.
