Unit Description

Continuing on from JAPN101, this unit aims to develop elementary communicative competence in Japanese through the following four categories of knowledge/skills: (1) basic aural and oral skills in Japanese (including expressing probability, moderating language, potential form of verbs, suffixes like -tai, -sugiru-, -to omou and -deshoo); (2) basic skills in reading and writing in Japanese (consolidating hiragana, katakana and the 75-100 kanji studied in JAPN101 and learning an additional 75-100 kanji in JAPN102); (3) awareness of aspects of Japanese society and culture relevant to inter-cultural communication and; (4) language learning strategies.
