Unit Description

This unit explores the ways in which modern Indonesian culture is being developed, principally through literature, mass media, and other communicative forms. The ideas and themes of interest to Indonesian cultural practitioners will be central to the study, as will the influences upon them. Modern cultural activities in different regions of the archipelago will be examined to increase awareness of Indonesian diversity. The material studied will be mainly in English, but will include some in Indonesian.
