| Unit Description |
An intensive school consisting of field mapping and practical classes covers topics including an introduction to sedimentary rocks, sedimentary environments - past and present, and stratigraphic principles. Practical classes cover identification of sedimentary rocks and textures in hand specimen and thin section, stratigraphic correlation and an introduction to micropalaeontology. During the field mapping school, students use field mapping tools and techniques, including application of state-of-the-art remotely sensed imagery, and learn to identify sedimentary rocks and geological structures. Assessment: field work performance, a field mapping report, practical exercises, a literature report, and exam. |
