Why study the Master of Psychology (Clinical) at UNE?

This course will train Psychology graduates in the professional specialisation of clinical psychology. The program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Accreditation will enable graduates to apply for membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), to meet the academic requirements for entry to the APS College of Clinical Psychologists, and to register as psychologists.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission to candidature, an applicant shall have fulfilled the requirements for a degree of this or another University or hold a qualification of equivalent standing. The applicant shall either:

a) Have completed an honours degree in Psychology at the level of at least second class honours; or

b) Have completed a qualification approved by the Faculty as equivalent to that specified in (a).

1.Admission to Candidature
1.1. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the school on the recommendation of the course coordinator.

1.2. To qualify for admission to candidature, an applicant shall have fulfilled the requirements for a degree of this University or have fulfilled the requirements for a degree or other qualification of equivalent standing of a university or other institution recognised by the school for this purpose, provided that the applicant either:

(a) has completed an honours degree in Psychology at the level of at least second class honours; or
(b) has completed a qualification approved by the school as equivalent to that specified in Rule 1.3.(a).

2. Course of Study
2.1. To qualify for the award of the Master of Psychology (Clinical), a candidate shall pass units to the value of 96 credit points approved by the course coordinator and shall complete such clinical practice or other field experience as may be prescribed by the school.

2.2. Units offered for the first year (or part time equivalent) of the course are available by internal on-campus study only. Units offered for the second year of the course (or part time equivalent) are available in the external study mode and by internal mode with approval of the course coordinator.

2. 3. The program shall comprise course work, research and practicum: PSYC 511:30, 512, 513:12, 611:12, 612:24, 613, 614.

3. Conditions of Candidature
3.1. Unless otherwise determined by the school, the candidate shall complete the requirements of the degree in not more than two years of full-time study, or not more than four years of part-time study from the date of admission to candidature.

3. 2. Unless good cause is shown to the school, failure in any unit shall result in termination of candidature.

4. Practicum
4.1. The first period of practical work shall be completed in the Clinic of the School of Behavioural, Cognitive and Social Science. The remaining Practicum shall be completed outside the University.

4.2. Candidates will be responsible for meeting all expenses arising from practicums undertaken away from Armidale.

5. Re-enrolment
5.1. Withdrawal from any unit shall be deemed to be withdrawal from candidature.

5.2. On the recommendation of the course coordinator, the school may readmit to candidature a person who has withdrawn from any unit. The school shall decide what, if any, of the candidature completed prior to the withdrawal shall be counted towards the new period of candidature.

6. Advanced Standing
6.1. Advanced standing shall not be granted for units in the course.

7 Progression and Conduct
7.1. Candidates may have their candidature terminated on the grounds of unsatisfactory progress or unprofessional or unethical conduct.

7.2. Unprofessional or unethical conduct shall be determined with reference to the appropriate professional Code of Ethics.

7.3.Before a candidate has his/her candidature terminated, he/she shall be given opportunity to show cause why such action should not be taken.
