1. Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) hold a degree of a university relevant to the award at a grade point average specified by the school; and
(b) have at least one year’s experience/employment, or equivalent, in a health-related field in the five years prior to admission to candidature; and
(c) have adequate preparation at the tertiary level to undertake research in the health area.
2. Course Requirements
(a) To qualify for the award, candidates shall pass 48 credit points as specified in Rules 2.(b) and 6.
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) the unit in Group 1;
(ii) six points from Group 2;
(iii) 36 credit points from Group 3;
(iv) a candidate shall undertake a major study in Health Science and a minor study in Health Science; and shall be examined on:
(1) a substantive piece of work in the minor area at the end of First Semester, and
(2) a thesis in a major topic to be submitted at the end of Second Semester.
3. Classes of Honours
3.1. There shall be three classes of Honours, namely Class I, Class II and Class III. Class II shall have two divisions. There shall be no re-examination;
3.2. An exceptionally distinguished candidate who has been awarded Honours Class I may be awarded a University Medal.
4. Period of Candidature
For candidates admitted under Rule 1. the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) two years as a part-time candidate.

Refer to the University General Rule on Academic Progress.
6. Units Offered
All units listed below for this award have a value of six credit points except where indicated after a colon.
Group 1
EHPS 590; or any other unit approved by the school.
Group 2
HSHM 431, 451; or any other unit approved by the school.
Group 3
HHSC 400:36; HS 499:36.
