Domestic Students

1. Admission

1.1. To qualify for candidature, a candidate shall have:

(a) either fulfilled the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Agribusiness or the Bachelor of Business with a major in Agribusiness, or an equivalent award as determined by the school; and
(b) completed units to the value of at least 24 credit points at 300 level; and
(c) passed units to the value of at least 36 credit points at 200-level or above at Credit level or better.

1.2. With the approval of the head of school on the recommendation of the course coordinator a person who has fulfilled the requirements for a degree at another university, recognised by the school for this purpose, and who has conformed with the equivalent of the requirements in Rule 5.1.1.(b) and (c), may be admitted to candidature leading to the Bachelor of Agribusiness degree with Honours.

2. General Requirements for Honours Courses

A candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Agribusiness with Honours shall complete either:

(a) a combination of dissertation and advanced course work units at 400-level to the value of 48 credit points as prescribed by the head(s) of the appropriate school(s); or
(b) a single 400-level Honours unit to the value of 48 credit points where the combination and weighting of the dissertation and course work components is prescribed by the head of the appropriate school.

3. Time and Attendance Requirements

3.1. A full-time internal candidate shall complete the requirements for honours in one year. Where the permission of the Head of the School of Business , Economics and Public Policy on the recommendation of the course coordinator has been granted, a part-time candidate may be admitted to the Honours course. Such a candidate shall complete the course over no more than two years and shall meet such residence requirements as are laid down by the Head of the School of Business , Economics and Public Policy on the recommendation of the course coordinator. The Head of the School of Business , Economics and Public Policy, on the recommendation of the course coordinator, may specify conditions under which a full-time candidate may transfer to part-time candidature.

3.2. In exceptional circumstances, the course coordinator may vary the requirements of Rule 3.1. by:

(a) Granting leave of absence from candidature for a period or periods totalling not more than 12 months and the period of such leave shall not be counted as part of the prescribed time of candidature; or
(b) Extending the period of candidature for a period or periods totalling not more than 12 months.

3.3. A candidate who withdraws by the due date set down in The University of New England Handbook may be permitted by the Head of the School of Business , Economics and Public Policy, on the recommendation of the course coordinator, to enrol in a subsequent year.

4. Classes of Honours

4.1. There shall be three classes of honours, namely Class I, Class II and Class III. Class II shall have two divisions.

4.2. The most distinguished candidate who has been awarded Honours, Class I, may, if of sufficient merit, be awarded a University Medal.

5. Re-examination

There shall be no re-examination for the degree of Bachelor of Agribusiness with Honours.

6. Submission of Written Work

Where a candidate submits a research seminar or thesis as part of the Honours program the candidate shall state generally in the preface of the work and specifically in the text as required the sources from which the information is derived and the extent to which the candidate has availed himself or herself of the work of others.
