Overview

This course is designed for people who are interested in the pursuit of local, family and applied history for personal, community or professional reasons. It offers training in, for example, family and local history sources and approaches, heritage conservation, architectural history, and oral history. It also provides an opportunity to learn more about the history of Australia and its place in the world.

Entry Requirements

To be admitted to candidature, applicants shall:

a) hold a degree of a university; or

b) hold a three-year diploma relevant to the award; or

c) have professional standing and successful professional practice relevant to the awards.

Course Rules

1.Admission to Candidature
1.1.Admission to candidature shall be determined by the school on the recommendation of the course coordinator.
1.2.To be admitted to candidature, applicants shall:

(a) hold a degree of a university; or
(b) hold a three-year diploma relevant to the award; or
(c) have professional standing and successful professional practice relevant to the award.

2. Course Requirements
2.1. To qualify for the award, a candidate shall pass units to the value of 48 credit points at 300 level or higher as specified in Rule 2.2.
2.2. The course shall comprise:

(a) HIST 330 and 339;
(b) units to the value of at least 24 credit points from Group II;
(c) units to the value of not more than 12 credit points from Group III;
(d) no more than 12 credit points from Research Project included in the course.

No more than 12 credit points at 300/400 level or above in History or any other unit approved by the course coordinator.

4.Period of Candidature
The maximum period of candidature shall be not more than eight semesters.
