Overview

The aim of the course is to provide a specialist professional qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). It is offered at either adult or school level.

Entry Requirements

A candidate must: (a) hold a three-year teaching qualification; or (b) a degree and a one-year teaching qualification recognised by the Faculty as suitable for entry into the award.

TESOL teaching

Practical, Clinical or Work Experience

Students will be required to complete fifty hours of ESL practice teaching and reach a satisfactory standard of proficiency as determined by a supervising teacher and/or staff member from the University. ESL practice teaching is arranged by UNE staff, if possible in your home area, but this cannot be guaranteed.

The course articulates with the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (TESL) and the Master of Education (TESL).

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in 2009.

1.Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall hold:

(a) a three-year teaching qualification; or
(b) a degree and a one-year teaching qualification recognised by the school as suitable for entry into the award.

2. Course Requirements
2.1. To qualify for the award, a candidate shall pass 24 credit points as specified in Rules 2.2. and 5.

2.2.The course shall comprise all units in Group 1.

3 Period of Candidature
The maximum period of candidature shall be:

(a) six months as a full-time candidate;
(b) two years as a part-time candidate.

4.Progress and Conduct
Refer to the University General Rule on Academic Progress.

5.Units Offered
All units listed below for this award have a value of six credit points except where indicated after a colon.
