| Overview | The Graduate Certificate in Marine Science and Managment is the first award level of a fully articulated program which gives qualified applicants the opportunity for study at three progressive levels: Graduate Certificate in Marine Science and Management, Graduate Diploma in Marine Science and Management; Master of Marine Science and Management. On campus study is completed at the National Marine Science Centre in Coffs Harbour NSW (http://www.nmsc.edu.au/). The award provides academic and professional training in some of the key topics in marine science and management. This includes updating the knowledge and skills of candidates who have previous training in this field. The Graduate Certificate will be awarded at the level of Pass, Pass with Credit, Pass with Distinction or Pass with High Distinction depending on the level of academic achievement. |

| Entry Requirements | Admission to candidature is a three year Bachelor degree, preferably in a science-related area. Applicants with other qualifications and professional experience will also be considered. |

2. Program of Study Each program of study shall comprise of units at 200-level and above to the value of 24 credit points. 3. Requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Marine Science and Management A candidate shall complete a study program comprising units including:

Period of Candidature Unless otherwise determined by the school in special circumstances, the course work program shall be completed in one semester of full-time study or in not more than four consecutive semesters of part-time study. 5. Advanced Standing The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 6 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by University and approved for course comprising:

| Career Opportunities | The qualification will be recognized in the market place as appropriate for managers dealing with marine and estuarine ecosystems. |

| Advanced Standing | The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 6 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by University and approved for the course comprising: a. 6 credit points for units completed at the University; or b. 6 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or c. 6 credit points for units completed towards an awarded qualification from another University; or d. 6 credit points on the basis of considerable professional experience. |

| Other Benefits | On completion of the Graduate Certificate, students are able to articulate to the Graduate Diploma. All units counted towards the Graduate Certificate will count towards the Graduate Diploma. Articulation to the Master of Marine Science and Management: On completion of the Graduate Diploma, students are able to articulate to the Master program with 24 credit points (no more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level) of advanced standing for units completed towards the Graduate Diploma. |
