Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing

Why study the Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing at UNE?

No longer offered, replaced with Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Practice. Currently enrolled students must complete this course by 31 December 2010.

The course aims to provide postgraduate educational opportunities for registered nurses to specialise in mental health nursing practice. The course opens up career pathway opportunities in mental health nursing, which peak industry bodies have identified as important for addressing mental health needs of the community, particularly rural and remote communities, for the future.

Entry Requirements

A candidate shall either: (a) hold the degree of Bachelor of Nursing and be a currently Registered Nurse in NSW and or be eligible for registration in New South Wales, and have at least one (1) year's professional experience as a Registered Nurse within the last five years; or (b) satisfy the Faculty by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing in 2009.

1.Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall either:

(i) hold the degree of Bachelor of Nursing and be a currently Registered Nurse in New South Wales or be eligible for registration in NSW, and have at least one year’s professional experience as a Registered Nurse within the last five years; or

(ii)satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.

2.Course Requirements
2.1.To qualify for the award candidates shall pass 24 credit points as specified in Rules 2.2. and 5.

2.2.The course shall comprise all units in Group 1.

3.Period of Candidature
The maximum period of candidature shall be two years as a part-time external candidate.

4.Progress and Conduct
Refer to the University General Rule on Academic Progress.

5.Units Offered
All units listed below for this award have a value of six credit points.
