Why study the Diploma in Agriculture at UNE?

This course has the general aim of providing a formal academic qualification for people who wish to obtain training at the tertiary level in some area of agriculture, without the need to commit themselves to a full degree program. It is an ideal program for those who need to undertake a refresher course in a particular discipline, or who wish to broaden their knowledge, or who perhaps simply wish to satisfy their curiosity.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have completed the Certificate in Agriculture or equivalent but applicants with other qualifications and relevant experience will be considered.

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing will be granted for units which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by the University and approved for the course as follows:

a. a maximum of 12 credit points for units completed at another institution which have not been counted towards another qualification; or

b. no limit will apply to advanced standing which is granted for units counted towards an undergraduate certificate course offered by the University; or

c. no limit will apply to advanced standing which is granted for units completed at the University and which have not been counted towards another qualification.

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Diploma in Agriculture in 2009.

1.       Admission to Candidature
An applicant for the Diploma shall:
(a)           hold a certificate of the school, or equivalent qualification; or
(b)          have satisfied the school by means of qualifications and/or related experience, that the equivalent standard of Rule 1.(a) has been achieved.

2.       Course Requirements
To fulfil the requirements for the Diploma a student shall:
(a)           complete a course work program approved in advance by the course coordinator and comprising units from those listed in Rule 3; or
(b)          complete one of the prescribed course work programs listed in Rule 4.

3.       Units Offered
Units offered for the Diploma are:
          AGEX 310; AGRO 100, 422; ANPR211, 321, 417, 440; ANUT 300; AQUA 200; COTT 300, 301, 302, 303; ECON 223; EM 334, 311; GENE 251; GRNS 300, 301, 302, 303; HORT 420; MEAT 418; MM 110, 200; PLTY 300, 301; RSNR 110, 120; WOOL 412, 422, 472, 482; and with the approval of the course coordinator, other units offered within the University may be substituted for one or more of these units.

4.       Course Work Programs
4.1.         Animal Health and Welfare
               ANPR 211, 321, 417; plus five units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.
4.2.         Applied Animal Nutrition
               ANPR211, 321; ANUT 300; plus five units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.
4.3.         Cotton Production
               COTT 300, 301, 302, 303; plus four units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.
4.4.         Feedlot Management
               ANPR 211, 321, 440; plus five units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.
4.5.         Meat Science and Technology
               ANPR211, 321; MEAT 418; plus five units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3
4.6.         Poultry Production
               ANPR211; PLTY 300, 301; plus five units chosen from those listed in Rule 3.
4.7.         Sustainable Grains Production
               GRNS 300, 301, 302, 303; plus four units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3.
4.8.         Wool Production
               ANPR211, 321; WOOL 412, 422; plus four units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3.
4.9.         General Agriculture
               Eight units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3.

5.       Period of Candidature
Unless the faculty determines otherwise, a candidate shall complete the program of study:
(a)           in not more than two semesters as a full-time student; or
(b)          in not more than eight consecutive semesters as a part-time student.

6.       Advanced Standing
Advanced standing will be granted for units which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by the University and approved for the course as follows:
(a)           a maximum of 12 credit points for units completed at another institution which have not been counted towards another qualification; or
(b)          no limit will apply to advanced standing which is granted for units counted towards an undergraduate certificate course offered by the University; or
