| Overview |
This course is designed to provide an appropriate education for professionals who are approaching mid-career. The course aims to provide the opportunity to acquire understandings and skills in the areas of leadership, people management and organisational administration; further the students' understanding of the societal context of their career roles through the interdisciplinary study of contemporary Australian society, institutional issues and values and the examination of significant social and cultural issues; provide opportunities for students to enhance their understanding of other issues relevant to their professional development by the negotiation of appropriate optional units; and to develop students' skills of analysis, synthesis and problem solving, as well as concepts and skills specific to different subject areas. |

| Career Opportunities |
General: Middle manager in a wide range of services, administrative or community relations roles. Peace Studies: National, international or non-government organisations involved in conflict resolution, reconstruction and re-building work, peace keeping operations, development and welfare work. Management/Administrative Leadership: Middle manager in government, church, military, statutory and non-profit or commercial organisations. International agency work, including UN agencies and International Non-Government Organisations (INGO's) are areas where graduates can apply to work on contract, as volunteers, and short term placements. |

| Advanced Standing | Australian Defence Force - For all Australian Defence Force personnel advanced standing can be given automatically from the rank of sergeant. The level depends on rank and the level of existing awards held. As an example, a GSO Army Captain will receive 50% on the basis of: graduation from the Australian Defence Academy and at least five years employment with the Australian Army. Australian Air Force - 50% will be granted on the basis of successful completion of the Staff Writing Skills course; and successful completion of the Junior Officer Initial Course; and at least five years RAAF service. Australian Navy - 50% on the basis of New Entry Officers Course (NEOC); and Divisional Officer and Officer of the Day (DO/OOD) Task Book; and Junior Officer Staff Course (JOSC); and at least five years continuous service. NSW Police Force - The amount of advanced standing varies as follows: 33.3% for those with eight or more years of service with the NSW Police; 41.5% for those with eight or more years of service with the NSW Police and who hold a relevant TAFE certificate or Certificate of Policing from the NSW Polic Academy (or equivalent); 50% for those with eight or more years of service with the NSW Police and who hold two or more relevant TAFE certificates or who hold a relevant university associate diploma or diploma; 66.6% for those with eight or more years of service with the NSW Police and who have already completed a relevant university degree. | |||||||||
