Overview

The course is designed for those people who are in, or aspire to be in, middle management and leadership positions in a wide variety of government, church, military, statutory and non-profit or commercial organisations. The award focuses on the functioning of people within organisations and is workplace oriented.

Entry Requirements

To gain admission to the award a candidate must: (a) hold a qualification requiring the equivalent of one year full-time study approved by the faculty; or (b) hold a qualification requiring the equivalent of two years' full-time study approved by the faculty; or (c) have completed the final year of secondary education or equivalent.

Training courses, years of experience and formal studies are taken into consideration when granting entry into Years 2 or 3.

Additional Entry Requirements

The admission guidelines for year 2 and year 3 entry are: one year of full-time study or equivalent at a recognised institution = 1 year; two years of full-time study or equivalent at a recognised institution = 2 years; Certificate IV (AQF 4) = 0.5 year; Diploma (AQF 5) eg Frontline Management = 1 year; at least five years in an administrative position = 0.5 year; relevant professional development activities (applicant is required to provide a portfolio of evidence and a summary of face-to-face and other hours) - 600 hours = 0.5 year; 1200 hours = 1 year; 2400 hours = 2 years

Course Rules

1. Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall have had appropriate administrative experience* and
(a) hold a qualification requiring the equivalent of one year’s full-time study approved by the school; or
(b) hold a qualification requiring the equivalent of two years’ full-time study approved by the school; or
(c) have completed the final year of secondary education or equivalent.

* Generally it will be expected that candidates will have had five years’ experience involving administrative responsibilities relevant to the award

2. Course Requirements
2.1. (a) To qualify for the award, a candidate admitted under Rule 1.(a) shall pass 96 credit points as specified in Rules 2.1.(b) and 5.
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) all units in Group 1;
(ii) not more than 48 credit points from Group 2.
2.2. (a) To qualify for the award, a candidate admitted under Rule 1.(b) shall pass 48 credit points as specified in Rules 2.2.(b) and 5.
(b) The course shall comprise 48 credit points from Group 2.
2.3 (a) To qualify for the award, a candidate admitted under Rule 1.(c) shall pass 144 credit points as specified in Rules 2.3.(b) and 5.
(b) The course shall comprise 144 credit points from Group 3.

3. Period of Candidature
3.1 For candidates admitted under Rule 1.(a) the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) two years as a full-time candidate;
(b) five years as a part-time candidate.
3.2. For candidates admitted under Rule 1.(b) the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) three years as a part-time candidate.
3.3 For candidates admitted under Rule 1.(c) the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) five years as a full-time candidate;
(b) seven years as a part-time candidate.

5. Units Offered
All units listed below for this award have a value of six credit points except where indicated after a colon.
Group 1
MM200, 202, 213, 220; PDAS 301; PDPS 204, 303, 333; or any other unit approved by the school.
Group 2
MM300; PDAS 302, 311, 312, 313, 314, 403:12; or any other unit approved by the school.
Group 3
AFM112; ENCO100; MM105, 110, 200, 202, 213, 220, 300; PDAS102, 104, 301, 302, 311, 312, 313, 314, 403:12; PDPS100, 171, 204, 303, 333; or any other unit approved by the school.
