Unit Description

Physiological adaptations of animals to their environment will be covered. The emphasis is on Australian vertebrates. Topics include energetics and thermoregulation of ectotherms and endotherms, the energetics of locomotion, cell volume regulation, how animals regulate the water and electrolyte levels in their bodies in different habitats. Practical work will be both laboratory- and field-based.
