| Unit Description |
The aim of this unit is to understand the ramifications of globalisation and economic and social development and their impact on social change in the developing nations with particular emphasis on Asia. The focus will be on the nature and dynamics of managing development and the broad areas to be covered include: theories of development; the role of the state in development; institutions and processes in development; and governance issues in development such as policy making and planning, program implementation, decentralisation, participation, empowerment. Some key development sectors will such as rural development, environmental management and health and population planning will also be evaluated. |
