Unit Description

This unit provides a general introduction to tort law. A more specific objective is to give students the learning tools needed to achieve an understanding of the law of negligence, covering the duty of care, standard of care, breach of duty, proof of breach, causation, remoteness of damage, vicarious liability and defences to the tort of negligence. Consideration is also given to other ways in which those who suffer injuries or losses may be compensated. Students are encouraged to develop a critical approach to the principles of law under consideration.
