| Unit Description |
Administrative Law is concerned with certain mechanisms that attempt to achieve a degree of accountability with respect to decisions made by administrators in the public sector. The unit focuses upon the legal principles that courts apply in constraining the decision-making power of administrators. By the end of the unit, students should be able to apply these legal principles to hypothetical situations. The unit, however, also recognises that administrative law encompasses more than the principles of judicial review applied by courts to administrative decisions. Administrative law encompasses a range of mechanisms including freedom of information legislation and merits review by tribunals. Furthermore, the unit is concerned with the policy interests affected by the legal principles. |
