Unit Description

In this unit, students review topics such as theoretical issues in Applied Linguistics, language use and language learning, language and power, age and gender in language, dialects in use, cross-cultural factors in language acquisition and use, learning disabilities in language acquisition, language and the law, world Englishes, critical pedagogy, bilingual education (especially in the Australian context), and language and the Internet. The role of qualitative and quantitative methodologies is examined. Web access is essential.
