Unit Description

This unit provides an overview of second language acquisition (SLA) studies through examination of theories of language, language learning, and language teaching. Issues considered may include: quantitative methodologies for SLA studies, the competence/performance distinction, the interlanguage continuum, the influence of factors such as age, personality, gender, culture and first language, second language phonology ('foreign accent'), the influence of input and environment, bilingualism, multilingualism, and bilingual education, and/or second language acquisition in the Australian context. Web access is essential.
