| Unit Description |
Advances in telecommunications technologies are dramatically transforming spatial relationships, at every scale from local to global. This unit examines that process of transformation. It is about the changes that electronic communications are bringing about, or could bring about, in the world, not only geographically but in terms of culture, economics and politics. Issues covered range from the future of work and leisure to emerging patterns of world economic development. The unit is about developing an informed appreciation of a wide range of issues arising from the growth of the Internet in particular and telecommunications in general. Assessment tasks are done online. Online discussion is an important (and assessable) aspect of the unit. |
