Unit Description

An introduction to the close reading and analysis of a selection of literary and film texts which engage with a range of cultural conflicts associated with the development of modernity in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The unit aims to give students the ability to read a variety of texts both in terms of their internal structure and in terms of the ways in which they engage with the social and political forces at work in the culture(s) they represent.
