Unit Description

This unit enables students to enhance their skills in academic, professional and creative writing by gaining practical and theoretical knowledge of editing and publishing. It offers an overview of these processes in print and online media, with a focus on the Australian context in a changing international publishing environment. The unit examines different sectors of publishing (industry, in-house, etc), modes of production (books, magazines, etc) and modes of writing and editing (generating copy, sub-editing, proofreading). It covers questions of drafting, layout and design; desktop publishing; and legal and ethical issues of professional practice.
