Unit Description

This unit invites students from non-English speaking backgrounds and the teachers of such students to consider the various roles that English now has in the world and the different attitudes that it evokes. Participants will be given the tools to examine the language ecology of a country or community familiar to them and they will be given the opportunity to explore some of the challenges which have accompanied the emergence of New Englishes and the status of English as a global language.
