| Unit Description |
This unit examines the social, political and cultural influences which shape discursive practices affecting young children. Social context is defined by a collection of ideas, assumptions and lived experiences that people encounter. Students consider theoretical perspectives and critique the manner in which they accept, are hesitant about or refrain from particular viewpoints of children and childhood, with reference to child-rearing and early education. Attention is given to identifying and debating personal, social and professional views of young children within urban and rural communities and from a diverse global perspective.
