| Notes | Students who enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Education in Secondary Music should have a Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent. The New South Wales Institute of Teachers now has a mandatory requirement for qualification as a Secondary Specialist Music Teacher, which states that the student must have completed units of study of Western art music. | |||||||||

| Unit Description |
The unit aims to develop pre-service teachers' pedagogical skills and knowledge for Secondary Music Years 7-10 by applying recent research, theory, and practice. The unit includes instructions on the curriculum requirements of the NSW Music 7-10 Syllabus (or equivalent in other States/organizations) and developing pedagogical skills and teaching resources for performance, composition, listening, and music ICT, using a range of musical styles with a strong component of western art music (as specified by the NSW Institute of Teachers). Emphasis will be given to diverse school contexts and students' various needs in the music classroom. |
