| Unit Description |
Admission to Chemistry honours is determined by the undergraduate record of the student: at least some Credit grades in Chemistry 300-level units are desirable. All prospective honours students must obtain acceptance from a potential supervisor and from the Head of the School of Biological, Biomedical and Molecular Sciences. The honours year begins on the first Tuesday in February, and finishes in November with submission of a thesis. Students are required to complete four approved lecture units, each equivalent to three credit points. An essay covering the background and introduction to the thesis topic is also required. Honours students present two seminars during the course. The first is based on an approved topic not necessarily associated with the research project. The second seminar is a review of the year's research and is assessed with the written thesis. The research project, and the thesis describing the work carried out and the results obtained, form the major part of the honours assessment. In addition, specialist discussion groups may be organised and students are expected to attend; all students are expected to be present at seminars. |
