Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology

Why study the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology at UNE?

The course provides an opportunity for graduates with a three-year accredited sequence in psychology to gain an accredited fourth year in psychology. Under current registration requirements, this will allow them to begin the process of professional registration as a psychologist. The program of study includes seminars on professional issues, as well as components on ethics and history, and reading courses on advanced theoretical topics. Students write an individual research report based on a supervised group research project. The course is specifically designed to provide a fourth year program in psychology for graduates with sufficient grades from the Bachelor of Psychological Science. It is open to qualified graduates in other degrees. Students must be able to run SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) on their computer. Minimum Windows 2000 on PC or OS 10.3.9 on Macintosh. I would like to know more about this course.

Entry Requirements A candidate must have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a Bachelors degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council; and have achieved an average result of Credit in the 200 and 300 level units in Psychology in that degree.
Advanced Standing Advanced standing may be granted for PSYC 411 on the basis of study at graduate level in Psychology. Advanced standing will not be granted for PSYC 412.

1. Admission to Candidature

An applicant for admission to candidature to the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology shall:

(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a Bachelors degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council; and
(b) have achieved an average result of Credit in the 200 and 300 level units in Psychology in that degree.

2. Course Requirements

A candidate shall successfully complete PSYC 411, a 24 credit point unit comprising course work and PSYC 412, a 24 credit point unit comprising course work and a group research report; a total of 48 credit points will be completed.

3. Period of Candidature

The period of candidature is two semesters for full-time students and four semesters for part-time students.

4. Advanced Standing

Advanced standing may be granted for PSYC 411 on the basis of study at graduate level in Psychology. Advanced standing will not be granted for PSYC 412.

5. Grade of Pass

The Postgraduate Diploma will be awarded at the levels of Pass, Credit, Distinction or High Distinction.
