| Entry Requirements | A candidate must hold either: (a) (i) a three-year teaching qualification; or (ii) a degree and a one-year teaching qualification recognised by the Faculty as suitable for entry into the award; or (b) hold the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. |
| Practical, Clinical or Work Experience | Students will be required to complete fifty hours of ESL practice teaching and reach a satisfactory standard of proficiency as determined by a supervising teacher and/or staff member from the University. ESL practice teaching is arranged by UNE staff, if possible in your home area, but this cannot be guaranteed. |

1.Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a)have proficiency equivalent to two years of study in the language they intend to teach; and
(i) hold a three-year teaching qualification, or
(ii) hold a degree and a one-year teaching qualification recognised by the school as suitable for entry into the award; or
(b) hold the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Languages Other Than English; or
(c) hold the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
2.Award of the Diploma
(a)Candidates who meet the course requirements listed under Rule 3.1. shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Languages Other Than English).
(b) Candidates who meet the course requirements listed under Rule 3.2. shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
3. Course Requirements
3.1.(a) To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Languages Other Than English) candidates admitted under Rule 1.(a) or (c) shall pass 36 credit points including all units in Group 1 and the remaining credit points from Group 3.
(b)To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Languages Other Than English) candidates admitted under Rule 12.1.(b) shall pass 12 credit points from Group 3.
3.2.(a) To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) candidates admitted under Rule 1.(a) or (b) shall pass 36 credit points including all units in Group 2 and 12 credit points from Group 3.
(b) To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) candidates admitted under Rule 1.(c) shall pass 12 credit points from Group 3.
4. Period of Candidature
4.1.For candidates admitted under Rule 1.(a) the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) four years as a part-time candidate.
4.2. For candidates admitted under Rule 1.(b) or (c) the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) six months as a full-time candidate;
(b) two years as a part-time candidate.

EDLA 402, 403, 404, 410.
Group 3
EDCX 409, 415; EDEE 323, 324; EDLA 318, 319, 403, 429; PDAB 402; PDLD 471; PDPS 304; or any relevant unit offered by the School of Arts.
