Entry Requirements

A candidate for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting shall:

(a) have completed all the requirements for a Bachelor's degree; or

(b) have completed an Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) relevant to the award, and shall have had at least two years (full-time equivalent) of relevant work experience in accountancy or a related field.

Advanced Standing Advanced standing may be granted for units completed towards a postgraduate qualification prior to admission provided that such units have reasonable correspondence to units offered in the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting to a maximum of 12 credit points.
Fast Track The trimester system allows students to study over three teaching periods each year.

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting in 2008.

1. Admission to Candidature
1.1. This course is available on a fee-paying basis only and is normally undertaken on a part-time basis.

1.2. An applicant for admission to candidature, on an internal or external basis, shall apply to the Program Director on the prescribed form, by the prescribed date.

1.3. A candidate shall:

(a)  have completed all the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree; or
(b)  have completed an Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) relevant to the award, and shall have had at least two years (full-time equivalent) of relevant work experience in accountancy or a related field.

2. Requirements for the Graduate Certificate
2.1 To satisfy the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting, a candidate shall complete the course work program approved by the Course Coordinator.

2.2. A candidate may proceed to the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting by course work to a value of 24 credit points comprising the compulsory units GSB 725 and GSB 751 and 12 credit points from the following units: GSB 605, 641, 741, 749, 750.

2.3. A candidate who satisfies Rule 1.3.(a) may include as elective units GSB 603 and 604 in Rule 2.2.

3. Period of Candidature
3.1. A part-time candidate shall satisfy the above requirements of Rule 2.2., in not more than six trimesters of 15 weeks’ duration from the date of commencement of candidature.

3.2. In exceptional circumstances, the course coordinator may vary the requirements of Rule 3.1. by extending the period of candidature for a period or periods totalling not more than two trimesters.

4. Advanced Standing
4.1. At the discretion of the Course Coordinator, on the recommendation of the relevant head of school or nominee, a candidate may be granted advanced standing for course work units only, passed prior to admission to candidature, provided that such units have reasonable correspondence with units offered by the faculty for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting.

4.2. The maximum advanced standing that may be granted is 12 credit points, except for students who have previously completed units towards a Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting who shall be eligible for up to 18 credit points. Advanced standing may be granted for course work units only on the basis of units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or through other significant learning that the school considers equivalent to units prescribed in the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting.

4.3. In Advanced Standing Rule 3 Rules 3.3. and 3.4.(a) do not apply to candidates enrolling in this award who are seeking advanced standing on the basis of an incomplete Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting.

4.4. A candidate who is re-admitted to candidature following exclusion, may be granted advanced standing by the faculty for units in which he or she previously satisfied Rule 2.

5. Improper Conduct
