Diploma in Agriculture

1. Admission to Candidature
An applicant for the Diploma shall:

(a) hold a certificate of the school, or equivalent qualification; or

(b) have satisfied the school by means of qualifications and/or related experience, that the equivalent standard of Rule 1.(a) has been achieved.

2. Course Requirements
To fulfil the requirements for the Diploma a student shall:

(a) complete a course work program approved in advance by the course coordinator and comprising units from those listed in Rule 3; or

(b) complete one of the prescribed course work programs listed in Rule 4.

3. Units Offered
Units offered for the Diploma are:
AGEX 310; AGRO 100, 422; ANPR 417, 440; ANPR211, 321; ANUT 300; AQUA 200; COTT 300, 301, 302, 303; ECON 223; EM 234, 311; GENE 251; GRNS 300, 301, 302, 303; HORT 420; MEAT 418; MM 110, 200; PLTY 300, 301; RSNR 110, 120; WOOL 412, 422, 472, 482; and with the approval of the course coordinator, other units offered within the University may be substituted for one or more of these units.

4. Course Work Programs

4.1. Animal Health and Welfare
ANPR 211, 321, 417; plus five units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.

4.2. Applied Animal Nutrition
ANPR211, 321; ANUT 300; plus five units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.

4.3 . Cotton Production
COTT 300, 301, 302, 303; plus four units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.

4.4. Feedlot Management
ANPR 211, 321, 440; plus five units to be chosen from those units listed in Rule 3.

4.5 . Meat Science and Technology
ANPR211, 321; MEAT 418; plus five units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3

4.6. Poultry Production
ANPR211; PLTY 300, 301; plus five units chosen from those listed in Rule 3.

4.7. Sustainable Grains Production
GRNS 300, 301, 302, 303; plus four units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3.

4.8. Wool Production
ANPR211, 321; WOOL 412, 422; plus four units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3.

4.9. General Agriculture
Eight units to be chosen from those listed in Rule 3.

5. Period of Candidature
Unless the faculty determines otherwise, a candidate shall complete the program of study:

(a) in not more than two semesters as a full-time student; or

(b) in not more than eight consecutive semesters as a part-time student.

6. Advanced Standing

A student may be granted advanced standing towards the Diploma in terms of Advanced Standing Rule 2, provided that:

(a) Rule 2.1.(a) shall not apply;

(b) the maximum advanced standing which may be granted in terms of Rule 2.1.(b) shall be for 12 credit points;

(c) there shall be no limit to the advanced standing which may be granted in terms of Rule 2.2.(b) if the awarded qualification is for a course offered by the University;

(d) the maximum advanced standing which may be granted in terms of Rule 2.1.(b) if the awarded qualification is for a course offered by another institution shall be for 12 credit points.
