Bachelor of Health Science

Why study the Bachelor of Health Science at UNE?

No longer offered. Currently enrolled students must complete this course by 31st December 2012.

This course aims to provide current natural therapy practitioners with a level of knowledge, understanding and skills in appropriate aspects of science and health which enable them to work competently and confidently in their field. Graduates will be equipped to become advocates for their profession through sustainable practice, with the capacity to successfully pursue a range of health-related careers.

For students wishing to undertake the general Bachelor of Health Science the course provides an end-on option for students with appropriate qualifications in the allied health fields, to achieve a university level award, while receiving recognition of prior learning.

Entry Requirements

A candidate must hold the three-year Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy from the Australasian College of Natural Therapies; or be qualified for admission (see normal entry requirements) and hold an Advanced Diploma in Health Science, Nursing or any other health-related field.

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Bachelor of Health Science in 2008.

1. Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) hold the three-year Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy from the Australasian College of Natural Therapies; or
(b) be qualified for admission (see Undergraduate Admission Rules), and hold an Advanced Diploma in Health Science, Nursing or any other health related field.

2. Course Requirements
2.1 (a) To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy), candidates admitted under Rule 1.(a) shall pass 48 credit points as specified in Rules 2.1.(b) and 5.
(b) The course shall comprise all units in Group 1.
2.2 (a) To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Health Science, candidates admitted under Rule 1.(b) shall pass 72 credit points as specified in Rules 2.2.(b) and 5.
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) all units in Group 2A
(ii) 12 credit points from Group 2B.

3. Period of Candidature
3.1 For candidates admitted under Rule 1.(a) the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) two years as a full-time candidate;
(b) four years as a part-time candidate.
3.2 For candidates admitted under Rule 1.(b) the maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) three years as a full-time candidate;
(b) six years as a part-time candidate.

4. Progress and Conduct
Refer to the University General Rule on Academic Progress.

5. Units Offered
All units listed below for this award have a value of six credit points.
Group 1
HS 265, 454; HSHM 212, 301; HHSC 343, 383, 384, 385.
Group 2A
HHSC 233, 243, 383, 384; HS 265, 322; HSCS 313; HSHM 212, 301, 305.
Group 2B
HHSC 385, 398; HS 219, 250, 352, 403, 485; HSHM 251, 311, 331, 338, 343; HUMN 340; PDAB 306; PSIO 210; SOCY 321 or any other unit approved by the school.
