Unit Description

This unit is equivalent to 26 lectures and 39 practical hours. Parasitology acquaints students with the range of parasites encountered in terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments. The course focuses on the biology of parasites of significance to human and animal health, methods of diagnosis and control. Parasite ecology is studied, including adaptations to parasitism, parasite manipulation of host behaviour and the evolution of virulence. Assessment includes a practical report and an essay.
