Unit Description

This unit explores sex, gender and bodies in contemporary society using texts on feminism and masculinity studies. Readings in the sociology of the body will form a core theoretical component. Topics and areas of debate vary from year to year but will include issues such as: adolescence and sexuality, male and female bodies, body image, sporting bodies, technobodies/cyborgs, pornography, prostitution, transsexualism, clitoridectomy, pregnancy and adolescent sexuality.
