| Unit Description |
PSYC 101 and 102 are two introductory psychology units which are the prerequisites for enrolment in second year psychology units. Together they present an introductory overview of the subject matter and methods of psychology. Topics covered in PSYC 102 concern features of individual and social functioning including: thought and language; individual differences; personality; abnormal psychology; methods of therapy; and social cognition and affect. Research methods and statistics are also examined in this unit. For on-campus students there are two or three lectures per week with at least eight hours of compulsory laboratory sessions per semester. For off-campus students there is a mandatory three-day residential school. Assessment is based on laboratory exercises, a major practical report and an end-of-semester examination. |
