Unit Description

Four lectures and a one-hour tutorial per week. This unit is the first semester of a major in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. It is designed to give the required mathematical background for study in physics, engineering and other disciplines. Topics include: vectors; matrices; systems of linear equations; complex numbers; set theory; functions, continuity; and differentiation. The advanced option includes an introductory study of the quaternions.
