Unit Description

LING 462 will provide an overview of the study of second language acquisition through examination of theories of language, theories of language learning, and theories of language teaching. Some of the issues considered may include the competence/performance distinction, the interlanguage continuum, the influence of factors such as age, personality, gender, culture and first language on second language acquisition, second language acquisition and second language phonology ('foreign accent'), the influence of input and environment on second language acquisition, bilingualism, multilingualism, and bilingual education, and/or second language acquisition in the Australian context. Web access is required.
