Unit Description

LING 451 will provide an examination of current issues in Applied Linguistics. In this unit, students will review and discuss topics such as current theoretical issues in Applied Linguistics, language use and language learning, language and power, age and gender in language, dialects in use, forensic linguistics, cross-cultural factors in language acquisition and use, learning disabilities in language acquisition, language and the law, world Englishes, critical pedagogy, sociocultural and physical environment, multilingualism, bilingual education (especially in Australian context), and/or language and the Internet. Web access is required.
