| Unit Description |
The unit introduces students to the study of the behaviour of sound systems in languages, within mainstream (generative) phonological theory. We look at some recurrent problems in phonology in a range of languages, at the theories that have been proposed to explain them, and critically assess their implications for formal models of grammar. |
