| Unit Description |
Language is fundamental to most aspects of human life. This unit provides an introductory overview of the basic structural features of language, using data from English and other languages to look at sounds, words, and grammar. It explores and compares 1st and 2nd language learning, touches on varieties of language (dialects, standards, etc) and considers attitudes towards varieties. Finally, it examines the nature of meaning and explores some of the meaning relationships that hold between words. Web access is recommended. |
