Unit Description

This unit, consisting of alternative streams, will conduct students through the volatile interaction of modernism and Islamic tradition centred on questions of law, economics, business ethics, war and government. By looking at these key areas students will not only engage with some of the fundamental aspects of Islam as a religion of belief and practice but also confront some of the underlying dividers of the Western-Islamic encounter and experience. Students should acquire a greater apprehension of the factors and impulses underlying the rejection by Muslims of the kind of world order sponsored by the West.
