| Unit Description |
This unit starts by examining the reasons why human beings feel a need to conceive the future. This leads into a survey of alternative windows on the future from the humanities and social sciences (including Literature, psychology, political science, philosophy, geography and urban planning), economics and business, and the sciences. it also considers contemporary approaches to forecasting. The unit concludes with a survey of issues in managing the future, including sustainability, moral constraints and risk management. Students will appreciate the problems of conceiving the future from many disciplinary perspectives. |
