Unit Description

GEOL 102/202 is an online introductory palaeontology unit presented by mixed mode delivery. Access to the www is essential. Topics covered in the unit include: the origin of life on Earth; Cambrian explosion; evolution; extinctions and radiations during the Phanerozoic; preservation and uses of fossils; selected invertebrate fossil groups; and Australian fossil sites. Resources include a printed Study Guide, CD-ROM and access to the UNE GEOL 102/202 Introductory Palaeontology web site, containing essential readings for the unit, as well as access to discussion boards where all students submit assessed online assignments.
