Unit Description

The unit offers an introduction to engineering principles and their application to agricultural practices. Topics covered are: elements of structural design; characteristics of timber, steel and concrete; intensive animal production, waste management, environmental control; basic hydraulics, pumps, irrigation and drainage; soil conservation, hydrology and small dam design; tractor power generation, power transmission and traction; tillage, planting and harvesting machinery.
