| Unit Description |
This unit comprises up to 39 lecture hours. A unit on the application of the principles of welfare economics to the environmental, agricultural and industrial sectors. Particular attention is given to causes of market failure as they exist in those sectors and the types of policies that can correct the market failures. Examples are drawn from open-access grazing, water pollution, soil degradation, monopoly versus competitive marketing of agricultural and resource commodities, and decreasing-cost food processing industries. |
