Unit Description

Two lectures and a two-hour laboratory session per week. This unit studies the foundations of communication networks in order to follow and contribute to their evolution. It describes the hardware and the software of computer networks. Topics include: physical layer; packet switching; Internet working, TCP/IP, Ethernet, LAN, WAN; introduction to Unix network programming; programmation of distributed applications under the Unix OS. External students should see COMP 280 for computer requirements.
