Unit Description

This introductory unit gives you a basic foundation for your study of Modern Standard Chinese. It provides essential grounding in the pronunciation and tonal structure of Chinese, and in the patterns of the language. You will become familiar with the pinyin romanisation system as well as learning the fundamental principles of writing and reading Chinese characters. You will learn how to participate in simple conversations in Chinese, and will gain a practical understanding of the basic grammatical concepts.
